Cycling at 74: Woman Biking Across County for Music Education

Grand Forks, ND (WDAZ-TV) -A former Ms. Senior Nebraska and California is biking her way across seven states through the month of July to raise money for kids. She's also a concert pianist. Her goal is to raise money for music education.

Starr's ride started at the International Peace Gardens and will end in Ohio.



Senior Beauty Queen and Musician Patricia Starr to Bike 4,000 Miles For Music Education

Mrs. Senior Nebraska, Patricia Starr, appeared on this morning's Fox Morning News in Washington, DC, discussing her upcoming 4,000 mile bike trip across the country where she will play in senior bands in order to raise money for music scholarships.

She biked over 3,600 miles at age 67.

Fargo, ND (WDAY-TV) - A 74 year old woman plans to pedal 4000 miles around the United States. Mrs. Senior Nebraska Patricia Starr stopped in Fargo on her way to Sioux Falls South Dakota. Her journey will cross seven states. Her mission is to raise money for music education and to raise awareness for senior bands across the country. Starr, a concert pianist, believes music is very important in children's lives and says we need to do what we can to keep it in our schools.

New book gives insight into plane crash that killed Buddy Holly

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) An upcoming book raises questions about the cause of the plane crash that killed Lubbock native Buddy Holly. Holly's music is said to have inspired music legends like the Beatles, Elton John, The Who, and many more. Holly, the Big Bopper, and Richie Valens died in the 1959 plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. The author of this new book comes to the same ultimate conclusion as investigators more than 50 years ago, but sheds new light on the last moments of the flight; and he stumbled upon a startling statement by the family that owns the wrecked plane. "My book 'Hey Buddy' is a look at the enduring impact of Buddy Holly," said Gary Moore, author. more

MADISON (WMSN) -- Barbara Barnett says she fell in love with the Fox hit show, "House" during its first season. Now she's a blogger and an author, because she followed her passion.

Barnett, a writer, started blogging mostly for fun at first. Then someone she knew suggested she contact, so she did. They gave her a column which soon caught the attention of the Fox network who linked to one of her trivia quizzes and the next she knew, she had quite a following.

"It sort of snowballed and I've been writing the columns ever since," she said.

But it doesn't stop there. She is also co-editor of blogcritics and that caught the attention of an agent who suggested she write a book on the topic, so she did. Chasing Zebras, The Unofficial Guide to House, M.D. came out in November.
